Summer Camps at Discovery Cube OC!

When school ends the science adventure begins as we travel beyond the classroom to explore during week-long, interactive camps! Young scientists, ages 5-12, will find themselves engaged in experiments, science challenges and outdoor activities that make them laugh, think and discover new concepts.

Summer Science

Ages 5-7

Above & Beyond

Ages 7-10

Visit Discovery Cube OC for summer camp in order to take advantage of all that our inventive exhibits have to offer, including “Above and Beyond,” the ultimate interactive flight exhibition! Pilot a jet, fly like a bird, and through augmented reality, learn what happens to your body when you spend an extended time in space…. And much, much more!  In addition, spend some time preparing a healthy snack (guided by our staff) in the Petersonville Healthy Kitchen, located in the heart of the science center. Also tinker with electric circuit kits and delve into the intriguing world of forensic science as you search for clues and use special techniques to identify mystery liquids and powders.

Technology and a Raspberry Pi

Ages 10-12

Camp will be held during the weeks of July 17 and July 24 from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.

Campers will learn how computers work through a series of hands-on activities starting from basic circuitry to using a programming language to control a circuit.  Activities include creating your own computer game, experimenting with breadboards, and cracking secret messages using binary code. Learn how computers receive messages, translate messages into binary, and relay these messages elsewhere through outdoor games. Using Scratch, an educational programming language, campers will learn the foundations of computer coding to be able to control everyday electronics and program their own interactive stories, games, and animations.

Summer Camps at the Santa Ana Zoo

The Zoo and You

Ages 5-7

Camp will be held during the weeks of July 17 and July 31 from 9 AM to 12:30 PM.

Visit the Santa Ana Zoo where each camp day focuses on an animal-related children’s storybook, including Click, Clack, Moo, Cows That Type, “Slowly, Slowly, Slowly,” Said the Sloth, and Are You a Bee?  These storybooks will provide the theme for the day as the campers explore associated topics and activities, such as making butter, investigating eggs, and learning about animal body coverings, such as fur, feathers, scales, and quills.  During special shows, campers will have the opportunity to meet live animals up-close, such as an armadillo, pancake tortoise, and macaw.  They will also tour the Zoo, play monkey bingo, make an edible bird nest, and much more all in the safety of the barnyard classroom and outdoor amphitheater.

Zoo Camp

Ages 7-10

Visit the Santa Ana Zoo and perform some of the jobs associated with working at a zoo, including what a veterinarian, zookeeper, and zoo architect does.  Campers will learn the difference between cold-blooded and warm-blooded animals as they use stethoscopes to listen to their own heartbeats and compare them to the heartbeats of live zoo residents, such as a snake and a rabbit.  During an investigation of animal design and modes of movement, campers will test their own balance, strength and hand-eye coordination skills.  They will create a model of an animal enclosure, meet live animals up-close, such as a pancake tortoise, macaw, and armadillo, and more – all in the safety of the barnyard classroom and outdoor amphitheater.

If your child is too adventurous to stay indoors all summer, let them take a walk on the wild side of science at the San Joaquin Marsh in Irvine, one of Orange County’s most scenic settings! During this active and exciting camp, kids will investigate the wonderful world of marshland plants and animals while also focusing on a series of children’s storybooks, such as Rainbow Fish, Tops and Bottoms, and Bats at the Beach, that will set the stage for learning. All of the hands-on activities are conducted in and around the safety of the Marsh’s “Discovery” classroom as they concoct ooey gooey slime, create a cloud in a bottle, design their own bug, and much more!

Project Discovery

Ages 7-10

Visit the San Joaquin Marsh, a natural and manufactured paradise located in Irvine. During camp, the children will enjoy a variety of design and engineering challenges, such as building and testing a model roller coaster, dropping an egg without breaking it, and constructing a catapult to launch objects toward targets. In addition, the campers will explore the forces that drive a paper glider, our planet, and our solar system, by making, testing, comparing, and contrasting models.  Other thought-provoking and hands-on investigations include conducting a series of chemical reactions that produce light, gas, or a change in temperature.  All of this and more with your child’s safety in mind, in and around the Marsh’s “Discovery” classroom.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation Request must be received at least 10 business days prior to the start date of your program to receive a refund. A $40 fee will be deducted to cover the cost of processing the refund. There will be no refund if cancellation occurs less than 10 business days prior to camp start date or during camp.

Changes: Any changes to your program must be completed at least 10 days prior to the original start date. Changes are subject to program availability. There will be no charge for the first change; however, there will be a $40 charge for each subsequent change.
